Update April 2010

Just an update as to where I am. My inspector is coming this week and he wants to check on the fit of the fuselage and wing .I decided to jump the gun and have a quick look myself. If all O.K. I can push on with the wing and fit the control runs, walkways and all the other myriad of jobs that require doing. Only space available is on the front drive --- but people are very interested. Picture

Update January 2010

I have glued all ribs and rear spars in place. The weather isn't helping much so progress is slow --- as usual lots of sanding to tidy up various bits and bobs. I have just received my undercarriage wheels and will now have to sort out getting them welded onto the legs. Having now retired my project is coming on a little bit quicker. Still lots of parts to source but will get there eventually. Pictures

Update August 2009

Here is a picture showing a dry run of the wing ribs. Slowly getting there but lots of questions on lining up the ribs correctly.

Update November 2008

I had my inspector in last week and he is letting me close up the rudder and horizontal stabiliser. I have semi-fitted the canopy but in all these things it always takes a bit longer than expected. Next job to do is set up my build table for the spar. Pictures

Update September 2007

Please find attached some pictures of my project up to date. I had a problem with the rudder post . When I clamped up it moved - not noticeably but enough to be well out at the top . After discussion with my inspector I eventually re-did the tail. So that's a word of warning to all. I have moved on some what and have completely made the tail sections. One of the engineers in work is making my metal bits but they will have to pass inspection. The parts I have already seen look impressive but then again I am not an engineer. Because of my lack of space I can't fit the tail empennage (garage not wide enough) I am going to struggle when it comes to building the spar and then the wing but I am sure where these a will a way will be found. I am working on the canopy frame at the moment , lots of sanding etc. So hopefully!!!!! by the year end it will be fitted. I think I will then get the fuselage out of the garage and fit the tail HOPEFULLY All my best wishes to you and yours Geoff

Update August 2006

The rudder that's on is going for scrap - made a bit of a horrlicks.(See builder's notes)
I am at the stage were I can call in my inspector to see if I can put the turtle decking on but before I do I want to have the rudder done so he can give his permission to close that up as well. Pictures

Update March 2006

As you can see, (pictures) all those little jobs and sub assemblies I have been making are now starting to make a difference. Like every body else I am waiting for summer to kick in so I can glue. How often do I read that on our web - site?

Update Early 2005

My name is Geoff Whittaker, I started my build in October 2004. I am building in sitka spruce and my sons have christened it the Spruce Gosling. Completed so far the main fuselage formers , the 2 sides are on the build board , just waiting for the weather to warm up to start glueing. I am using my garage to build in and as I am running out of space I have started to build a workshop on the back of my garage. I hope to get organised with some pics. in the near future.
