Geraint Jonese-mail address geraintjones@supanet.com My name is Geraint Jones and I currently live on the Isle of Islay in the Hebrides, - although I originally come from Caernarfon in North Wales. I have not yet had myself taught to fly but I'm hoping to do this sometime during the next 18 moths or so. I too am a 'wannabee builder' who finds the Menestrel an ideal project for a first time builder. I was looking for a plans built two seat side-by-side that is likely to be reasonably easy for someone who knows very little about aircraft construction. It also had to be made of wood as I have read the CAA materials on the required welding standards (the bits I could actually understand) and found that to build a metal aircraft from plans in the UK is a job for a trained engineer and not a welding hobbyist. I also wanted an aeroplane that would 'go places' and the Menestrel also satisfies this requirement. I intend to send off for the plans during the summer. I'm going to Kemble for Flying For Fun first though, - to gather some more info on building wooden aeroplanes and maybe some info on engines. I fancy putting a Jabiru engine (or maybe a Rotax) in the Menestrel eventually - if it's possible.
